Question 834385: I have a problem on my algebra homework that has to do with setting up an equation for finding the age the parent will be when the child is exactly half of the parents age if the child was born when the parent was 32. I have tried finding the answer by doing ratios, because I know that each year the parent turns older, the child will turn one year older. I worked this out until I found out that the parent would be 64 when the child is 32. I just don't know how to set up the equation. I think is might be
2(32)divided by 2 = x. Is this right? If not, what am I missing?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can say:
Let +c+ = the child's age at a certain point in time
You know that the parent's age at that time will be +c+%2B+32+
---------------
Now say that point in time is when
+c+=+%281%2F2%29%2A%28+c+%2B+32+%29+
----------------------
+2c+=+c+%2B+32+
+c+=+32+
So when the child is 32, the parent is +c+%2B+32+=+64+
Hope this helps
