Question 808430: Ben and Jerry want to make some ice cream. Ben can pick the strawberry field by himself in 8 hours but doesn't show up until an hour after Jerry starts picking. They both then work and finish picking the field in another two hours. If Ben had not shown up and Jerry had to instead work by himself, how long would it have taken him to pick the field?
my work:
using a table...ben's rate = 1/8, his time is 3 hours?,
Jerry's rate is 1/x and his time is 2 hours? (working together)
help!
