Question 804037: Sai is on a railroad bridge 3/8 of the way from Helena to Pelham. A train is heading his way at 40 mph. If Sai runs toward the train, he will meet the train head on at the end of the bridge (point H). If he runs away from the train toward Pelham, the train will overtake him at the other end of the bridge (point P). How fast can Sai run?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sai is on a railroad bridge 3/8 of the way from Helena to Pelham.
A train is heading his way at 40 mph.
If Sai runs toward the train, he will meet the train head on at the end of the bridge (point H).
If he runs away from the train toward Pelham, the train will overtake him at the other end of the bridge (point P).
How fast can Sai run?
;
If he runs away from H he will be 3/8 + 3/8 = 6/8 or 3/4 of the way from H when
the trains enters the bridge at H
:
Therefore we can say that the train covers the whole length of the bridge,
while Sai covers 1/4 of the bridge (He is 3/4 across the bridge when the
train enters.)
Train is going 40 mph, therefore Sai is going 10 mph
