Question 782018: Solve the Equation
0.5(3x + 0.07) = 20.6
I keep getting high fractions for answers when solving. I do not believe I have the right answer. Can I get help to see if I am doing something wrong or if I am right?
here is my work...
.5(10) (3x + .7)10 20.6(10)
5(30x + 7) = 206
150x + 35 = 206
150x + 35 - 35 = 206 - 35
150x = 171
/150 /150
x = 171/150
This doesn't seem right to me.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.5(3x + 0.07) = 20.6
*10
5(3x+0.07)=206
15x+0.35=206
15x=206-0.35
15x=205.65
/15
x=13.71

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are mishandling your factor of 10 simplification.

Step carefully,
0.5%283x%2B0.07%29=20.6
5%283x%2B0.07%29=206
3x%2B0.07=206%2F5
3x=206%2F5-0.07
x=%28206%2F5-0.07%29%2F3
x=206%2F15-0.07%2F3
x=206%2F15-%280.07%29%285%29%2F15
x=%28206-0.35%29%2F3
and then simplify appropriately. Do you find a different rational result?
