You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A crew consists of 1 apprentice, 1 journeyman, and 1 master carpenter.
The crew receives a check for $9,200 for a job they finished.
A journeyman makes 300% of what an apprentice makes and
a master carpenter makes make 250% of what a journeyman makes.
How much does each person on the crew earn?
:
Write an equation for each statement
:
" A journeyman makes 300% of what an apprentice makes"
j = 3a
or
a = j%2F3
:
" a master carpenter makes make 250% of what a journeyman makes."
m = 2.5j
:
" The crew receives a check for $9,200 for a job they finished."
a + j + m = 9200
Replace a and m
j%2F3 + j + 2.5j = 9200
j%2F3 + 3.5j = 9200
multiply by 3
j + 10.5j = 27600
11.5j = 27600
j = 27600/11.5
j = $2400 for a journeyman
then
a = 2400/3
a = $800 for an apprentice
:
m = 2.5 * 2400
m = $6000 for the Master
