SOLUTION: Solving the square: x^2+2x=48 I believe you add + 1 to both sides so x^2+2X+1=48+1 then I think you add the 48+1 to make 49. I am not sure where to go from there. Thank you f

Question 764732: Solving the square:
x^2+2x=48
I believe you add + 1 to both sides so x^2+2X+1=48+1 then I think you add the 48+1 to make 49. I am not sure where to go from there. Thank you for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0
x^2 + 2x.......-48
x^2 + 2x + (2/2)^2..... - 48
(x + 1)^2..... -1 - 48
(x + 1)^2 - 49
OR
x^2 + 2x + 48 = 0
x^2 + 2x.......+ 48
x^2 + 2x + (2/2)^2.....+ 48
(x + 1)^2.......-1 + 48
(x + 1)^2 + 47
If you add +1 to one side
you must balance it up
with -1 to the other side.
Hope this helps.
