Question 75618: Hello out there,I have some questions towards some difficult equations,can someone help me please,the first question is,A solution of the equation 4x=10-cy is (5,-2).What is the value of c?The next one is,Find g(9) given that g(x)=2x+3.The next is,Find h(4) given that h(x)=x/2minus7.And the last one is,Assume that y varies directly as x.Find y when x =54 if y= 1/4 when x=3/2.Thanks for whoever can help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first question is,A solution of the equation 4x=10-cy is (5,-2).What is the value of c?
Let x=5; let y=-2
4*5 = 10 - c*-2
20 = 10 + 2c
2c=10
c=5
-----------------
The next one is,Find g(9) given that g(x)=2x+3.
g(9)=2*9+3=21
============
The next is,Find h(4) given that h(x)=x/2minus7.
h(4)= 4/2 - 7
h(4)= 2-7
h(4)=-5
-------------

And the last one is,Assume that y varies directly as x.Find y when x =54 if y= 1/4 when x=3/2.
If y vaies directly as x, y=kx
If y=1/4 when x= 3/2 then (1/4)=k(3/2) and k=(1/4)*(2/3)=1/6
So the proper equation is y= (1/6)x
Now, find y when x=54:
y=(1/6)54
y=9
==========

Stan H.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) The solution to 4x+=+10-cy is (5, -2).
What is the value of c?
Since you have been given the solution of (5, -2) you can substitute x = 5 and y = -2 into the given equation and solve for c.
4%285%29+=+10+-+c%28-2%29 Simplify.
20+=+10+%2B+2c Subtract 10 from both sides of the equation.
10+=+2c Finally, divide both sides by 2.
c+=+5
2) If g(x) = 2x+3 find g(9) Substitute 9 for x in the function.
g(9) = 2(9)+3
g(9) = 18+3
g(9) = 21
3)If h%28x%29+=+x%2F2+-+7, find h(4) Substitute 4 for x in the function.
h%284%29+=+4%2F2+-+7
h%284%29+=+2-7
h%284%29+=+-5
If y varies directly as x, you can write: y = kx where k is the constant of proportionality. To find the value of k, susbstitute the given x = 3/2 and y = 1/4
1%2F4+=+k%283%2F2%29 Multiply both sides by 2%2F3
k+=+1%2F6
Now you have:
y+=+%281%2F6%29x Substitute x = 54.
y+=+%281%2F6%29%2854%29
y+=+9
