Question 74723: Not in book.
The length of a rectangle is the sume of two whole numbers. The wideth of the rectangle is the difference of the same two whole numbers. Using the facts, write a verbal expression for the area of the rectangle.
I got 2l^2-2b^2+4l+4b
Does this look right?
Thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a=first # and b=2nd #
If the length is the sum of the numbers then
L=a%2Bb
And if the width is the difference of the 2 then
w=%28a-b%29
So the area is
A=L%2Aw=%28a%2Bb%29%2A%28a-b%29=a%5E2%2Bcross%28ab-ab%29%2Bb%5E2=a%5E2-b%5E2
So the area is
A=a%5E2-b%5E2

I'm afraid not!
Area=(a+b)(a-b) a & b being the whole numbers for each side.
The area of this rectangle is the product of the sum of two whole numbers times the difference of the same two whole numbers.
