Question 731023: if y is equal to 60 and x is equal to 1
then y is equal to 58 and x is equal to 2
then y is equal to 56 and x is equal to 3 and it follows in this linear pattern
what is the algrebriac expression for this fall on a line graph
I have just been teaching my year 6 basic algebra on a line graph e.g. y equal x and y equals x plus 2 but dont know how to answer this data probelm
Hope you can help?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
highlight%28y=-2x%2B62%29 or highlight%28y=62-2x%29

It is a linear pattern.
As x increases by 1, y decreases by 2.
The ratio of change in y to change in x is -2, and that ratio is called the slope of the line.
That slope is a function of the smaller angle the line makes with the x axis.
Parallel lines make the same angle with the x axis and have the same slope.
Lines with the same slope are parallel.
A line with slope -2 going through the origin, point (0,0), has the equation y=-2x.
The line y=-2x%2B62 crosses the y axis at x=0, y=62.
We say that the y-intercept is the point (0,62), or we just say that the y-intercept is 62.
