Question 72264:
Found 3 solutions by Edwin McCravy, Sandacious, madthehack:
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x + 3 = 9

We need to get rid of the 3 term
on the left. So we add -3 to both
sides:

2x + 3 = 9
    -3  -3
----------
2x     = 6

Now we get rid of the 2 by dividing
both sides by 2:

   2x     6
  ———— = ———
    2     2

Cancel the 2's on the left, and
cancel the 2 into the 6 on the right:

   1      3
   2x     6
  ———— = ———
    2     2
    1     1

and all that's left is

     x = 3

So the solution set is {3}

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2X + 3 = 9 First Isolate the variable (Get X alone) Subtract 3 from both sides
2X = 6 now, divide both sides by 2. Remember, what you do to one side, you have to do to the other to keep it balanced.
X = 3

2X+3=9
2X=9-3
2X=6
X=6/2
X=3
