Sandra is Y years old . In 14 years her age will be 3 times her age 14 years ago

This means that we can say

y + 14 = 3(y-14)

solve for y to get

y+14=3y-42

y=3y-42-14

y-3y=-42-14

-2y=-42-14

-2y=-56

y=(-56)/(-2)

y=28

So she is currently 28 years old.

In 14 years, she will be 28+14 = 42 years old and will be 3 times her age 14 years ago (which was 14).
