: Question: -2 (y + 6) = y + 3 + 2y
- 2y - 12 = 3y + 3
+ 2y + 2y
-----------------------
- 12 = 5y + 3
- 3 - 3
-----------------------
- 9 = 5y Do I divide 5 on each side from here?
I got 1.8 = y ???

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve for y:
-2(y+6) = y+3+2y
Your first steps were good...until you got to:
-12 = 5y+3 Then you tried to subtract 3 but made a mistake.
-12-3 = 5y+3-3
-15 = 5y Divide both sides by 5.
-3 = y
So y = -3.
Check:
-2(-3+6) = -3+3+2(-3)
-2(3) = 2(-3)
-6 = -6
