x = y-5 ⇒ less nickles, more dimes
.05(y-5) + .1y = 55.40 ⇒ substituting and solving for y as the question asks for dimes ye
.05y - .25 + .1y = 55.40
.15y = 55.40 + .25
.15y = 55.65
y = 371 dimes
