The president of a certain university makes three times as much money as one of the department heads. If the total of their salaries is $210,000, find each worker's salary

Let X be the salary of one of the department heads
So 3X is the salary of the president.
Then X + 3X = $210,000
4X = $210,000
X = $210,000/4 = $52,500
Therefore the salary of one of the department heads is $52,500
and the salary of the president is 3($52500) = $157,500
