Isolate the x variable by subtracting 245 from both sides
500 - 245 = 245 + 5x - 245
255 = 5x

Divide both sides by 5 to further isolate x

OK you need to get x by itself on one side of the = sign and everything else on the other.
500 = 245 + 5x
first subtract 245 from both sides to move the 245 to the other side of the = sign
500-245 = 5x
Next you need to divide both sides by five to get x by itself

now solve
500 - 245 = 255
= 51
therefore x = 51

-5X TO EACH SIDE OF THE EQUATION
500+-5X=245+5X+-5X
COMBINE LIKE TERMS
5X+-5X=0
500+-5X=245+0
500+-5X=245
ADD-500 TO EACH SIDE OF EQUATION
500+-500+-5X=245+-500
COMBINE LIKE TERMS500+-500=0
0+-5X=245+-500
-5X=245+-500
COMBINE LIKE TERMS
245+-500=-255
-5X=-255
DIVIDE EACH SIDE BY -5
