You can
put this solution on YOUR website!
4(y-3)=2(y-1)+16
4 * y = 4y
4 * -3 = -12
2 * y = 2y
2 * -1 = -2
4y - 12 = 2y - 2 + 16
Subtract 2y from each side of the equation.
4y - 12 - 2y = 2y - 2 + 16 - 2y
Combine like terms:
4y - 2y = 2y
2y - 2y = 0
2y - 12 = -2 + 16
-2 + 16 = 14
2y - 12 = 14
Add 12 to each side of the equation.
2y - 12 + 12 = 14 + 12
Combine like terms:
-12 + 12 = 0
14 + 12 = 26
Therefore:
2y = 26
Divide each side by 2
2y/2 = 26/2
y = 13
The Answer:
y = 13
