Question 665452: A rectangular picture frame was made from one 8 ft long board with nothing left over. the two lengths of the frame total 6ft. What is the total for the two widths? I need an equation, I know how to solve equations but have trouble with setting them up.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

if a rectangular picture frame was+made from one 8+ft long board with+nothing+left+over, then the perimeter of the picture frame is P=8ft
the two lengths L of the frame total 6ft,
2L=6ft

What is the total for the two widths W?
an equation for the perimeter of the picture frame (which is in rectangular shape) is:
P=2L%2B2W....solve for 2W
2W=P-2L.............plug in given values for P and 2L
2W=8ft-6ft
highlight%282W=2ft%29........the total for the two widths
