Question 664167: Hi, how do you solve this fractional equation? Can you please explain it to me....
4m-3/5=5m+2/12.... (4m-3 over 5)= (5m+2 over 12) Found 3 solutions by ReadingBoosters, MathTherapy, sher-sher:Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Starting with
4m - 3/5 = 5m + 2/12
Group like terms
4m - 5m = 2/12 + 3/5
-m = 2/12 + 3/5
Create common denominator
-m = 2/12(5/5) + 3/5(12/12)
-m = 10/60 + 36/60
-m = 46/60
Divide both sides by -1
m = -46/60 = -23/30
...
Check
4(-46/60)-3/5 = -184/60-3/5(12/12)=-184/60-36/60=-220/60 = -22/6
5(-46/60)+2/12=-230/60+2/12(5/5)=-230/60+10/60=-220/60 = -22/6

12(4m - 3) = 5(5m + 2) ------- Cross-multiplying
48m - 36 = 25m + 10
48m - 25m = 10 + 36
23m = 46

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 4m-3/5=5m+2/12 L.C.M=60
60(4m-3/5)=60(5m+2/12)
12(4m-3)=5(5m+2)
48m-36=25m+10
48m-25m=10+36
23m=46
m=46/23
m=2
