You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +p+ = number of puppies in the litter
The store paid +800%2Fp+ for each puppy
They sold +p+-+3+ puppies
+800+%2F+%28+p+-+3+%29+ is the money received per puppy
+800+%2F+%28+p-3+%29+=+800%2Fp+%2B+60+
Multiply each side by +p%2A%28+p+-+3+%29+
+800p+=+800%2A%28+p+-+3+%29+%2B+60%2Ap%2A%28+p+-+3+%29+
+800p+=+800p+-+2400+%2B+60p%5E2+-+180p+
+60p%5E2+-+180p+-+2400+=+0+
+p%5E2+-+3p+-+40+=+0+
Looking at this, I can see
+%28+p+-+8+%29%2A%28+p+%2B+5+%29+=+0+
+p+=+8+ ( ignore the negative root )
There are 8 puppies in the litter
check:
They sold all but 3, which is 5 puppies
800/5 = $160 per puppy
160 - 60 = $100
This means they paid $100 for each of the 8 puppies
or $800
OK
