Question 65548: Solve each of the following systems by substitution.
(16) 5x –2y = -5
y –5x = 3
(20) 8x –4y = 16
y = 2x –4
Solve each of the following systems by using either addition or substitution. If a unique solution does not exist, state whether the system is dependent or inconsistent.
(38) 10x +2y = 7
y = -5x + 3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The first problem is:

5x - 2y = -5 --------(1)
y - 5x = 3 --------(2)

from EQN(2), we get: y = 3 + 5x

So, substituting this in (1), we get:

5x - 2(3 + 5x) = -5

5x - 6 - 10x = -5

-5x = -5 + 6

-5x = 1

x+=+-1%2F5

Using the value of x, we get the value of y.

y+=+3+%2B+5%28-1%2F5%29

y = 3 - 1

y = 2

Hence, x = -1/5 and y = 2

The 20th nd the 30th problem does not have a unique solution.

The solution of the 30th problem is independent and consistent.

The solution of the 20th problem is consistent and dependent.
