Then to do the top I believe I would just say it is -9x^2 the answer being

IF THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE
X^2/(X-3)-9/(X-3) THEN BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE SAME DENOMINATORS YOU CAN COMBINE THE NUMERATORS THUS
(X^2-9)/(X-3) NOW FACTORING THE NUMERATOR WE GET
(X-3)(X+3)/X-3) NOW WE CAN CANCEL OUT THE (X-3) FACTORS AND ARE LEFT WITH
X+3

The denominators are the same so combine the numerators and rewrite as follows:
[x^2-9]/(x-3)
=[(x-3)(x+3)/(x-3)]
Cancel the x-3 factors to get:
