From calculations, -+1%2F4 was found to be a root of the equation.
x+=+-+1%2F4 ----- x+%2B+1%2F4+=+0 ----- 4x + 1 = 0.
This means that one real solution is x+=+-+1%2F4, or -+0.25.

Using long division and dividing 4x%5E3+-+3x%5E2+%2B+31x+%2B+8 by 4x + 1, we get: x%5E2+-+x+%2B+8

We now have: 4x%5E3+-+3x%5E2+%2B+31x+%2B+8+=+0 ----- %284x+%2B+1%29%28x%5E2+-+x+%2B+8%29+=+0


Solving x%5E2+-+x+%2B+8 using the quadratic equation formula gives us a negative discriminant (b%5E2+-+4ac), or 1 – 4 * 1 * 8, or 1 – 32, or - 31)
