Question 63549: (x+1)/2-(x-7)/6=3 I keep getting 11, but when I put it in the equation it doesn't work???? Found 2 solutions by Earlsdon, ptaylor:Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Solve for x: Subtract the two fractions on the left side using the LCD of 6. Simplify. Multiply both sides by 6 and simplify. Subtract 10 from both sides. Divide both sides by 2.
Check: Substitute x = 4 into the original equation. Check is ok!
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Probably just a mistake in arithmetic
(x+1)/2-(x-7)/6=3 First, Lets multiply both sides by 6 and we get:
3(x+1)-(x-7)=18 or
3x+3-x+7=18 and
2x=18-7-3
2x=8
x=4
Hope this helps. Have a nice holiday season.---ptaylor
