SOLUTION: the sum of two number is 32 and their diference is12 what is the smaller number?

Let and represent the larger and smaller number respectively

 x+ y = 32

 x- y = 12    |Adding the EQs to eliminate y

 2x = 44

  x = 22  and 

  y = 10 , the smaller number
