Let the amount of price won by him in the year 1997 be "x".

Given that the amount received in 2001 was double the amount that he received in 1997.

Hence, amount received by him in the year 1997 is

2x = 1,008,000

x = (1,008,000/2)

==> x = $ 5,04,000

Hence the solution.
