None of those statements are true, there is an error in the problem
(1 1/2)^2 = 2.25 ≠ 1.2 + 1/4 = 1.2 + .25 = 1.45
(2 1/2)^2 = 6.25 ≠ 2.3 + 1/4 =2.55
