Question 562507: Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 60 miles per hour and train B is traveling at 80miles per hour. Train A passes a station @ 12:10am. If train B passes the same station @ 12:22am, at what time will train B catch up to train A?
I am not sure how to right the equation to solve, help?!! If you could please provide the equation and the answer so I can check my work?
thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 60 miles per hour and train B is traveling at 80miles per hour. Train A passes a station @ 12:10am. If train B passes the same station @ 12:22am, at what time will train B catch up to train A?
:
From the given information, we know that Train B is 12 min behind A at at 12:10 pm
therefore Train B is:
12%2F60 * 80 = 16 miles behind Train A at that time.
:
Let t = time required for Train B to catch Train A
:
Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
:
Train B dist = Train A dist + 16 mi
80t = 60t + 16
80t - 60t = 16
20t = 16
t = 16%2F20
t = .8 hrs for B to catch A
:
Convert .8 hrs to minutes: .8(60) = 48 min
:
Find the time from 12:10 pm:
12:10 + 0:48 = 12:58 pm, Train B catches Train A
