10x=4x-1-17 Subtract 17 from both sides.


10x-4x=-1-17 Subtract 4x from both sides.


6x=-1-17 Combine like terms on the left side.


6x=-18 Combine like terms on the right side.


x=%28-18%29%2F%286%29 Divide both sides by 6 to isolate x.


x=-3 Reduce.
