The easiest way to solve this equation,

is to multiply the entire equation by the least common denominator.

In this case it is 8:

x%2F2%2B1%2F4=5%2F8 given

8x%2F2%2B8%2A1%2F4=8%2A5%2F8 multiplied both sides by 8

4x%2B2=5 simplified

4x=3subtracted 2 from both sides

x=3%2F4 answer

You could also use the least common denominator to combine all the fractions, but it takes a LOT more time.

It's good to know both ways to do it though.
