You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Tony + teddy = 42
Tony = 42-Teddy
Let tony be x
Teddy = 42-x
Teddy = Tony +2
42-x=x+2
42-2=2x
40=2x
/2
x=20 Tony's age
Teddy's age = 22

I think the problem meant to say: the sum of Tony's and Teddy's ages is 1/3 their mother's age, or, thrice the sum of Teddy's and Tony's ages equals their mother's age. If I were to set this up just as it's stated, it'd result in Teddy being 62 years-old, which doesn't make any sense since their mother's 42.

With that said, let Teddy’s age be T
Then Tony’s age = T – 2

We can then say that: 3(T + T – 2) = 42

3(2T – 2) = 42

6T – 6 = 42

6T = 48

T, or Teddy’s age = 48%2F6, or highlight_green%288%29

This means that Tony is highlight_green%286%29 (8 – 2) years-old

I'll leave the check up to you!!
