here is where I get confused.....
is it: 31x - 9y = 37
or do I add to get 51x + 9y = 37

you asked "is it: ?...answer: NO, you cannot subtract from (as you cannot subtract apples from bananas)... is whole number and is a product of whole number and unknown variable
