3x%5E2%2B5x-2+=+0 Do you remember how to factor trinomials? If so, factor this equation.
%283x-1%29%28x%2B2%29+=+0 Now apply the "zero product principle".
3x-1+=+0 and/or x%2B2+=+0
If 3x-1+=+0 then 3x+=+1 and x+=+1%2F3
If x%2B2+=+0 then x+=+-2
The roots are:
x+=+1%2F3
x+=+-2
