Question 477791: Hello, i have been given a math AS head start booklet i must complete and there is one question i cannot seem to get the right answer to.
(y-1)/2 + (y+1)/3 = (2y+5)/3

i have tried rearranging this so that y is the subject, also multiplying so there is no denomiator, also making a common denominator 6, but icannot get the answer right (which is 2). Please could you help me? thank you so much.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
%28y-1%29%2F2++%2B+++%28y%2B1%29%2F3++=++%282y%2B5%29%2F3
LCD = 6
multiply the equation by the LCD 6
%28y-1%29%2A3++%2B+++%28y%2B1%29%2A2++=++%282y%2B5%29%2A2
3y-3+2y+2=4y+10
3y+2y-4y=10-2+3
y=11

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
check out the picture below:
step 1 is your original equation.
step 2 multiplies both sides of the equation by 6.
step 3 shows you the result of the multiplication.
step 4 combines like terms.
step 5 subtracts 4y from both sides of the equation and adds 1 to both sides of the equation.
step 6 combines like terms to get your answer.
