To find just the amount of labor you need to subtract. Subtract 3,900 from 6,300. Once you subtract them you get 2400. To check the answer you can add the numbers back. Add 2400+3900=6300. Therefore, it all works out :) Hope this helps!

We can let P and L be the cost of the parts and labor respectively. If we say that the cost is exactly $6300, then

P + L = 6300

3900 + L = 6300 --> L = $2400.

If the cost is *at most* $6300 then it simply becomes an inequality:

3900 + L <= 6300 --> L <= $2400.
