SOLUTION: If x/3 -1 is twice as large as x/4 -3 , what is the value of x? I've tried: x/3 - 1 = 2(x/4 -3) x/3 -1 = 2x/8 - 6 x/3 = 2x/8 - 5 8x/24 = 2x-5 8x = 48x-5 5 = 40

Question 458000: If x/3 -1 is twice as large as x/4 -3 , what is the value of x?
I've tried:
x/3 - 1 = 2(x/4 -3)
x/3 -1 = 2x/8 - 6
x/3 = 2x/8 - 5
8x/24 = 2x-5
8x = 48x-5
5 = 40x
x=8
but im not sure if its right. Please let me know the answer. Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x%2F3+-+1+=+2%28x%2F4+-+3%29
<==> x%2F3+-+1+=+x%2F2+-+6
==> 6+-+1+=+x%2F2+-+x%2F3
==> 5+=+x%2F6
==> x = 30, after cross-multiplication.
