You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a = number of adults
c = number of children
23 people in total:
a%2Bc=23.............(1)
cost = $80:
4%2Aa%2B1%2Ac=80...........(2)
Rearrange (1) to give a in terms of c:
a=23-c...........(3)
Substitute (3) into (2) for c:
4%2823-c%29%2Bc=80
92-3c=80
3c=12
c=4
So 4 children attend the play.
I hope this helps.
P.S. I am trying to start up my own homework help website. I would be extremely grateful if you would e-mail me some feedback on the help you received to adam.chapman@student.manchester.ac.uk
