Here is the problem: An auto mechanic charged a customer $265 for repairs. The cost of parts was $105, and the mechanic charged $40 per hour of labor. How many hours did it take the mechanic to fix the car?

Equation:
C(x) = 105 + 40x where x is the # of hours of labor.
----
Solve: 265 = 105+40x
40x = 160
x = 4 hrs. of labor
