No, absolutely not. There are two very compelling reasons, one general and the other specific, why not.
First, in general, when you are asked to solve for  , you have to solve for , not  or anything else.
Second, specifically for this problem,  . Not even close.
Start over. Take the square root of both sides. Remember to consider both the positive and negative roots. Set 3x + 7 equal to the positive root and solve. Then set 3x + 7 equal to the negative root and solve. Since 676 is a perfect square, x will be a rational number.
