If the # of variables is more than the # of independent equations, there are an infinite # of solutions.

The graphs intersecting at infinitely many points is one way to tell. For example, the equation sin%28x%29+=+cos%28x%29 has infinitely many solutions because the graphs intersect at infinitely many points:
