Question 374754: Hello, I recently took an assessment and now I'm doing a test revision. This is one of the problems I got wrong:
6(2y+5)-4(y-3)=7
Can you help me solve the equation for y? I tried and got 25 over 8 (as in a fraction), but I don't remember what I did, because the test was almost 3 weeks ago.
Thanks in advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
6%282y%2B5%29-4%28y-3%29=7 Start with the given equation.

12y%2B30-4y%2B12=7 Distribute.

8y%2B42=7 Combine like terms on the left side.

8y=7-42 Subtract 42 from both sides.

8y=-35 Combine like terms on the right side.

y=%28-35%29%2F%288%29 Divide both sides by 8 to isolate y.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:

So the solution is y=-35%2F8
