Question 370211: When solving a rational equation, why it is OK to remove the denominator by multiplying both sides by the LCD and why can you not do the same operation when simplifying a rational expression? Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Because in a rational EQUATION you're using the multiplication property of equality, whereas rational EXPRESSIONS don't have that property. What you can do, though, with expressions, is multiply AND divide by the same quantity. Hope that helps =)
