You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you fill your car's gas tank when it is about 1/2 empty. the next week, you fill the tank a second time when it is about 3/4 empty. if you buy a total of 18 1/2 gallons of gas on these two days , about how many gallons does the tank hold?
.
Let x = gallons gas tank holds
then
(1/2)x + (3/4)x = 18.5
multiplying both sides by 4:
2x + 3x = 74
5x = 74
x = 14.8 gallons
