okay, so lets set up the equation:
6%2B2x%2Bx=72
6%2B3x=72
6-6%2B3x=72-6
3x=66
3x%2F3=66%2F3
x=22
So one number is 22, and the other is 6 more than twice 22, so the other number is 6%2B2%2822%29=6%2B44=50. The two numbers are 22 and 50.
We can check that this works:
50-6=44%2F2=22
and 50%2B22=72 bingo!
