Question 32845: HELP!! I am struggling in solving this equation. I am never sure on the negative numbers on how to figure.
Solve the following equation by first solving for y: 2x - 3y = 12

You can put this solution on YOUR website! My advice is to first add 3y to both sides, so you won't have to worry about the coefficient of y being negative. This will leave you with 2x = 12 + 3y.
Then, subtract 12 from both sides. You will have 2x - 12 = 3y.
Finally, divide both sides by the coefficient of y, which is 3.
You will end up with (2/3)x-(12/3) = y, or
y = (2/3)x - 4.
