square both sides to get:
x=144-24x+x^2
Simplify:
x^2-25x+144=0
Factor:
(x-9)(x-16)=0
x=9 or x=16
Check the answers:
sqrt(9)=12-9
3=3 OK
sqrt(16)=12-16
4 = -4 not acceptable.
The only solution is x=9
