You can put this solution on YOUR website! 3/(2y-2) - 2/(y-1) = - 1/2 solve for y
---
Multiply thru by 2(y-1) to get:
---
3 - 2*2 = -(y-1)
-1 = -y + 1
y = 2

You can put this solution on YOUR website! First step.
Multiply the entire equation by (y-1)(2y-2)
so you get 3(y-1)-2(2y-2)= -1/2(y-1)(2y-2)
second step.
simplify.
first foil the (y-1)(2y-2) = (2y^2)-4y-2
then you distribute the 3 the -2 and the -1/2
you get 3y-3-4y+4= (-y^2)+2y+1
now combine like terms
you get -y+1=(-y^2)+2y+1
now add y
you get 1=(-y^2)+2y+1
subtract 1
you get 0=(-y^2)+2y+0
now you can either use quadratic formula or foil
this is the quadratic formula.
A is -1, B is 2, and C is 0 just plug in and solve.
this equation cannot be factored but after plugging in the numbers in the formula you shoud get the answers well youll get x = but it same as y= in this case. answer is y=0 and y=2 make sure to check your answers by plugging the final answers into the origional equation and in this case I did and found out that 2 is the only solution for 0 does not work.
