Question 286926: We're doing review now and i do not remember how to do words problems like this. Here is the problem: Two boats traveled in opposite directions from the same starting point. The rate of one boat was 10km per hour faster than the rate of the other. After 3 hours they were 270km apart. Find the rate of the slower boat. You can put this solution on YOUR website! You say this is word problem but you didn't list it as one.
3x+3(x+10)=270
3(2x+10)=270
2x+10=90
2*(x+5)=90
x+5=45
x=40 kph
check
3*40+3*50=270
120+150=270
ok
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I they are traveling in opposite directions
you can add their speeds and consider one
to be stationary and the other moving
Let = speed of the slower one km
The slower boat's speed is 40 km/hr
check:
slower boat: km
faster boat:
OK
