You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have space in your garden for 60 small flowering bulbs. Crocus bulbs cost $0.25 each and daffodil bulbs cost $0.85 each. Your budget allows you to spend $36.60 on bulbs. How many crocus bulbs and how many daffodil bulbs can you buy?
--------------------
Two-variable solution:
Quantity Eq:::: c + d = 60
Value Eq::::::25c+85d = 3660 cents
-----------------------------------
Multiply thru the Quantity equation by 25 to get:
25c + 25d = 25*60
---
Subtract that from the Valuee equation and solve for "d":
60d = 2160
d = 36 (# of daffodil bulbs)
----
Since c+d = 60, c = 24 (# of crocus bulbs)
