You can put this solution on YOUR website!
16=3(x-1)-(x-7)
.
Distribute the 3 to terms inside parenthesis:
16=(3x-3)-(x-7)
.
Remove parentheses (don't forget to distribute the "neg sign"):
16=3x-3-x+7
.
Combining like-terms:
16=2x+4
.
Subtracting 4 from both sides:
12=2x
.
Finally, dividing both sides by 2:
6 = x
