Combine similar terms. Remember to change sign when you move to the left or to the right: 3x-x=-5-4
2x=-9

Isolate "x" by dividing 2 on both sides: cross%282%29x%2Fcross%282%29=-9%2F2

x=-9%2F2, Answer

Chek by substituting to the equation:
3%28red%28-9%2F2%29%29%2B4=red%28-9%2F2%29-5
-27%2F2%2B4=-9%2F2-5

Get Least Common Denominator to do the operations:
